To begin with, starting from the etymology of the word (chicken(a) + -o- + Thursday), it is easy to understand that this day got its name from the hen. But why;
The Thursday of the second week of the Triod (Creatine) is called Chiknopepti, during which all the houses roast meat or render the fat from pigs, and the fragrant smoke (chikna) is diffused everywhere. For this reason, the day got its name from the egret! The choice of Thursday as a meat-eating day was clearly not accidental, since traditionally the fasting days are Wednesday and Friday.
Unfortunately, we do not know the exact origin of the custom, however it is likely that it comes from the Bacchic festivals of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who considered drinking and feasting a rite for the good euphoria of the earth in spring.
