This amazing fruit comes from Illicium verum, an evergreen tree that first appeared in Vietnam and China. The oil contained in this fruit is the same as traditional anise, which is why their aroma is so similar. This oil is called anethole.
Do not hesitate to try it in your hot drinks, marinades, seafood dishes, soups and broths. Before serving, you can remove it as it cannot be eaten.
