The Papaioannou Estate Pinot Noir is one of the first Pinot Noirs in Greece and perhaps one of our favourites. Juicy and fruity, it's almost impossible not to conquer you from the first sip!
Thanasis Papaioannou was one of the greatest visionaries of Nemea. He founded the family winery in ancient Nemea in 1876 and was one of the first to engage in organic farming. Studying his 570 hectares of vineyards, he had noticed that some plots provided the ideal conditions for growing "difficult" international varieties, such as Pinot Noir. The red variety of Burgundy settled in the Nemea plain and found a second, slightly warmer home there. From the first moment until today, the Pinot Noir of the Papaioannou Estate has a fanatic audience, due to its formality and incredible price. Careful vinification is 50% of success, since the barrel is as much as, without covering the fruit. The wine is aged for 6-8 months in oak barrels and then for 12 months in the bottle.
It has a medium purple color and strong aromas of strawberry, cherry, plum, sour cherry, vanilla, butterscotch and cedar. In the mouth it is juicy and fruity, with a medium body, velvety tannins and balanced acidity. Strawberry jam, black cherry and raspberry are complemented by notes of vanilla, tea, cinnamon and tobacco.
Aromas: Strawberry jam, black cherry, raspberry, vanilla, tea, cinnamon, tobacco.
