Beaujolais Nouveau
The 1st wine for 2023
According to an old custom in the bistrots of Lyon, immediately after the feast of All Saints, they served Beaujolais of the new vintage (so it would not be an exaggeration to say that Beaujolais Nouveau was born in the bistrots of Lyon).
When the Second World War brought to Lyon a large number of artists and intellectuals who wanted to escape the German occupation of Paris, they met, loved and brought back to Paris the habit of drinking fresh Beaujolais. The beginning had been made and it wasn't long before the time came when the whole world was talking about Beaujolais Nouveau and in fact the day when the wine reached bistros, wine cellars, restaurants it acquired such power that as a global event it raises the anxiety of wine lovers to the vertical until they taste the first glass of Beaujolais Nouveau.
Le Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived
This is the motto that prevails every year on the third Thursday of November! Five words that raise the excitement and inform wine lovers around the world, about the arrival of the new wine. Written on the window of a bistrot in Lyon in 1951, it caught the eye of Louis Orizet, a poet and writer, who spread it and made it the motto of an entire region. 1954 was the first time that the slogan "Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrive" became the banner of the region's producers and its fame went beyond the narrow confines of Beaujolais. And while half a century has passed since then, every year the presentation of the new crop keeps the interest of his fans undiminished. But the wine itself maintains its vitality and freshness even though it has been in the limelight for half a century. A few days remain until the moment when the first wine of the new harvest will make its official appearance.
THE WINE
Its color is ruby red with lively violet highlights, concentrated and very intense. On the nose, red fruits, sweet cherry and a dose of clove are quite intense and subtle. In the mouth aromas of blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant dominate which underline its origin - Gamay variety - and the aromatic finesse of Nouveau. It is soft, aromatic, has a refreshing acidity and closes with a pleasant aftertaste reminiscent of jam. It is a wine full of charm and character.
