Περιγραφή
Mastic is the resin produced by mastic trees in southern Chios – an aromatic product unique in the world, although mastic, like a tree, grows throughout Greece and the Mediterranean.
Mastic was made famous by chewing gum, once known in Greek as mastiches, due to its main flavoring ingredient. Mastic is used in confectionery mainly in buns, but also in the production of mastic liqueur.
Modern research confirms the beneficial properties traditionally attributed to mastic in Chios, so the material now appears not only in cooking, but also in cosmetics and medicine.
