Hot, homemade food for the whole family

A simple, hearty, winter dish that is easy to make, doesn't require much experience, and forgives small mistakes. If you're just starting to cook, this recipe is ideal. If you have experience, you can improve it with small details and make it your own.

Which piece of chicken should I choose?

For this recipe you can use:

  • Legs (they stay juicier)
  • Chicken in portions
  • Breast fillet (if you want a lighter result)

If you're a beginner, boots are a safer choice because they're difficult to dry out.

Ingredients (for 4 people)

  • 1 kilo chicken (in portions or legs)
  • 400 g fresh mushrooms
  • 1 dried onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 200 ml cream
  • 1/2 glass of white wine (optional)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • A little thyme or rosemary


Preparation - Step by step

1️⃣ Prepare the chicken
Remove the chicken from the refrigerator 20–30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature. Pat it dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

2️⃣ Sauté for more flavor
In a frying pan, heat the olive oil and lightly sauté the chicken until it takes on a little color. We don’t want it to be fully cooked, just to “lock in” the juices. In the same frying pan, sauté the onion, garlic and mushrooms until they are soft. If you are using wine, add it now and leave for 2–3 minutes for the alcohol to evaporate.

3️⃣ Set up the baking tray
Place the chicken in a baking dish, add the mushrooms on top and pour in the cream. If you want a lighter version, you can mix the cream with a little milk. Add the herbs.

4️⃣ Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on the piece.


The chicken is ready when:

  • The sauce has thickened slightly.
  • The meat comes off the bone easily.
  • Its juices are clear


Little secrets of success

Don't overcook the chicken breast, because it dries out easily
✔ Do not wash mushrooms under water – clean them with a damp cloth
✔ If the sauce is too thick, add 2–3 tablespoons of hot water


What do we serve it with?

Chicken with mushrooms and cream goes ideally with:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • White or basmati rice
  • Spaghetti
  • Fresh bread for sandwiches

If you want a more wintery version, you can add a few potatoes to the pan from the beginning.
