The tomato is beneficial for human health and occupies an important place in the diet, because it is rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements that help regulate blood sugar, constipation, as well as cholesterol.
It was unknown in Europe until 1544, when the Italians gave it the name "golden apple", for the yellow or orange color that the ripe tomato had at the time. The tomato came to Greece in 1818, as did the potato. The tomato has an acidic and slightly burning taste, while its nutritional value is important.
The tomato consists almost exclusively of water and biological substances. It is very low in calories and for this reason an excellent food for weight loss. The tomato was systematically cultivated for the first time in Central and South America (Peru).
